Inside-Out Security

Understand the security risks in your software and the work needed to address them.

AI is changing how weaknesses in software are found and exploited. It can speed up vulnerability research and parts of exploit development, increasing the scale at which attackers can work. At the same time, development teams are using AI to produce more code. Veracode’s 2026 research found that 44% of tested AI code generation tasks produced code containing a known security vulnerability.

Many security weaknesses sit in the code, cloud configuration and pipelines used to build and release software. ClearPoint reviews your software from the inside out, examining code, architecture, APIs, cloud infrastructure, pipelines, access and data. We assess these against relevant security standards and OWASP guidance, investigating the underlying causes of the issues we find. The review complements your existing penetration testing.

Leadership receives an assessment of the main exposures, ranked by business impact, with a roadmap that reflects the organisation’s appetite for risk. Engineering teams receive specific recommendations and walkthroughs covering the fixes and the changes to daily practice that can help prevent similar issues.

When a security review is useful

Providing evidence for the board and regulators.

A documented assessment supports board reporting and assurance work associated with ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI DSS, the Essential Eight and APRA CPS 234, where relevant to the agreed scope. It identifies the technical controls in place, the gaps found and the work needed to address them.

Keeping pace as AI writes more of your code.

As AI-assisted development changes the volume and pace of code delivery, the review examines whether code review, security testing and release controls are keeping up.

Building on your penetration testing.

The review examines the code, configuration and pipelines behind your systems. It helps investigate findings and identify the design, implementation or process issues that caused them.

Addressing problems at the source.

Finding weaknesses in code and configuration gives teams the opportunity to fix them during planned development, before they lead to production rework or an incident.

What an engagement looks like

Every review starts with your business, which systems are in scope and the depth of review required. Our engineers then examine your architecture, code, APIs, dependencies, cloud infrastructure, containers, pipelines, access and data, using AI-assisted tools alongside engineering review.

We take leadership through the findings, ranked by severity and business impact. Deliverables include an executive summary, a detailed findings register with references and evidence, an OWASP-based scorecard covering the agreed criteria, and a roadmap split into quick wins, medium-term fixes and structural improvements.

Walkthrough sessions give your engineering teams time to understand the findings and discuss how to implement the changes. An optional re-validation review checks whether the identified issues have been addressed. The scope and depth of the engagement reflect the size and complexity of your organisation and the testing you already have in place.

Security review services

Code and API security review

A detailed review of your source code and APIs for insecure patterns, injection flaws, broken access control and business logic weaknesses, including AI components where present.

Software supply chain review

An assessment of your third-party and open-source components and the pipelines that build and release your software, including build integrity and separation between environments.

Cloud and infrastructure security review

A review of your AWS, Azure or GCP configuration, infrastructure code and containers for insecure defaults, unnecessary network exposure and drift from secure baselines.

Access and secrets review

Checks on who and what can access your systems, including role design, privileged access and the handling of passwords, keys and tokens. This includes looking for secrets exposed in code or logs.

Data protection and monitoring review

A review of how sensitive data is classified, stored, encrypted and retained, and whether logs capture relevant security events without exposing sensitive information.

Security remediation roadmap

A prioritised plan covering quick wins through to structural improvements, with recommended code and configuration changes and hands-on sessions to help your teams implement them.

Common questions

How is this different from a penetration test?

Penetration testing typically examines how weaknesses can be exploited in a running system. The Inside-Out Security Review focuses on the code, architecture, configuration and pipelines behind it, with attention to underlying causes and the changes needed to address them. There can be overlap, so we agree on the scope alongside your existing testing programme.

We already use scanning tools. What does the review add?

Scanning tools identify vulnerabilities and insecure patterns and form a useful part of the review. We add engineering judgement to assess design, business logic, configuration and ways of working. Findings are investigated in the context of your systems and prioritised according to their business impact.

How long does a review take?

Duration depends on the size and complexity of your software landscape and how far you want to go. We agree scope with you at the start, so the timeline, effort and investment match your priorities and appetite for risk.

Will you fix what you find?

The roadmap includes recommended code and configuration changes, supported by walkthroughs with your teams. Where you need additional capacity, ClearPoint’s engineers can carry out remediation alongside your engineers. An optional re-validation review checks whether the specific issues have been addressed.
