A prominent New Zealand-based investment services firm that provides professional investment advice and portfolio management to private investors and institutional clients. Operating with a nationwide network of over 200 financial advisers, this organisation relies on a broad suite of internal tools to support account management, trading, and client engagement.

 

The Challenge / Driving Force

 

Faced with increasing pressure to modernise its internal systems used by financial advisers, the organisation’s tools were fragmented, inconsistent, and often reliant on legacy infrastructure, resulting in inefficiencies and a challenging user experience.

The client took this as an opportunity to consolidate these systems into a single hub, an Investment Management Platform, to:

  • Improve operational efficiency
  • Enable faster, more seamless client servicing
  • Provide a scalable foundation for future innovation
  • Reduce cognitive load on advisers by streamlining workflows

  • Human-centred design: Prototyped key user flows, conducted adviser interviews, and ran usability testing to inform continuous iteration.
  • Design system development: Created a component library to support consistency and ease of implementation.
    AI integration in delivery workflows: Used tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT Enterprise to accelerate delivery across research synthesis, content generation, comprehensive ticket writing, and decision-making artefacts.

 

The Outcome

 

The Investment Management Platform has become the central operating system for over 200 financial advisers nationwide.

It has:

  • Improved internal workflows, enabling advisers to manage client accounts, place trades, and handle multi-account operations from a single interface
  • Consolidated fragmented legacy tools into a coherent, consistent experience
  • Enabled faster onboarding and training through intuitive design and consistent patterns
  • Laid the foundation for future innovation, with scalable architecture and a clear product roadmap

The project also demonstrated the value of AI as a delivery tool, not to replace expertise, but to enhance clarity, speed, and communication. AI-supported workflows helped reduce administrative overhead and enabled more focused, strategic collaboration between teams.
